Central Coast Wood Carvers Annual Carving Show 2026
(Table application at the bottom of the page.)
The Central Coast Chapter 7 of the California Carvers Guild will present their 46th annual Woodcarving Show and Sale on September 19 & 20th, 2026. The show will be at the Cambria Veterans Building at 1000 Main St. Cambria California.
The show will be open to the public on Saturday(19th) from 10 am to 5 pm and on Sunday (20th) from 10 am to 4 pm.
Many Chapter members as well as other carvers from around the state will present a wide variety of woodcarving as well as other forms of wood decorating examples such as whittling, traditional hand woodcarving, power carving, turning, woodburning, caricatures, animals, florals, bark carvings, stylized carvings, chip carving, gourd decorating and more.
There will be demonstrations throughout the two days as well as carving contests on both Saturday and Sunday starting at 1 pm. On Saturday, the contest is open to any carver including our novice carvers. The Sunday contest is reserved for those carvers that have previously won a blue ribbon in any carving contest. Contestants will be limited to the tool(s) permitted and the allotted time set by the Contest Director. The subject of the carving contest (also set by the Contest Director) will only be announced at the date and time of the contest. Both contests will have prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the contest and will be announced shortly after each contest is completed and judged.
Visitors will have an opportunity to vote on “Peoples Choice” carvings that will be placed on the stage in the auditorium where visitors will be given a ballot when they enter and they can vote for any carving that is on the stage. Winners of this contest also receive prizes and will be announced late in the afternoon on Sunday.
New this year is a contest called “The 6” x 6” x 6” Challenge” where carvers complete any carving, any style. The ONLY requirement is that the finished piece MUST fit within a 6” x 6” x 6” cube. Those carvings will be judged and prizes awarded to the winners. More details about this contest will be coming soon.
Darryl Easter will present a carve along class on Friday, Sept 18 again this year. He is currently working on the subject of the carving class but has not revealed the project yet. There will be a charge for this class.
There will be drawings held for individual carvings on display and visitors can purchase tickets for $1 each to place in a container next to the carving they would like to win. The drawing will be held on Sunday late in the afternoon after the final carving contest and after Peoples Choice winners are announced. You do NOT need to be present to win and winners will be called and arrangements will be made to connect the winner and carving as soon as practical.
Some individual carvings may be available for sale at the show. Those carvers with carvings to sell will generally have them priced.
If you are interested in learning to carve this is a great place to connect with members of the local Chapter 7 and see what types of carvings are produced by members of the local group. Talk with those members and find out how to get started and what types of tools you might need to get started as well as sources for those materials. Chapter 7 meets each week at St. Timothy’s Church in Morro Bay from 9 am to about noon or later and has frequent classes on various topics. There is an annual nominal charge to join and participate in the carving group.
